The Peterborough Petes have added Brenley Shapiro to their staff as the team’s Mental Performance Coach.
A Toronto-based Sport Psychology and Performance Consultant, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and Certified Sports Vision Trainer, Shapiro’s innovative and in-depth program development combines theories of cognition and behaviours into mental skills training, along with scientific strategies using state-of-the-art technologies to strengthen neurocognitive processing. Shapiro’s rare and unique skill set blended together covers all aspects of the ‘mental game’ and will fundamentally guide Petes players to master their mind for ultimate performance enhancement.
Shapiro has been in practice for over 18 years working with athletes, teams, individuals, and organizations and is the founder of Heads Up Mental Game Coaching. She has extensive experience and a specialized focus in work with hockey teams and players at every level from minor hockey, through to the OHL, KHL, AHL and NHL. Shapiro has also been involved with the OHL Combine, U15 Program of Excellence, and sits on the expert panel for the Coaches Association of Ontario. She is a published author, powerful keynote speaker, and the Mental Performance Spokesperson for Gatorade Canada.
“We’re pleased to have Brenley join the Petes organization,” noted General Manager Mike Oke. “She will be an excellent resource for our players, assisting them to further develop mental skills that will help them perform at the top of their games.”
“The mind leads the body,” added Shapiro. “My goal is to teach the players how their mind impacts their performance by providing them with tips and strategies that will build a mindset for success.”
