The Peterborough Petes could not capitalize on a Kingston Frontenacs loss to the Niagara IceDogs to pull even with the Frontenacs as athe Petes dropped a 5-2 decision to the Belleville Bulls. As a result the Petes remain 2 points back of the Frontenacs for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
Following a scoreless first period the Petes struck first on Saturday night at the Yardman Arena on Stephen Pierog’s 15th goal of the season and first of 2 on the night, but the Bulls replied with a pair of powerplay goals before the end of the period scoring on a 5 on 3 advantage and on the ensuing 5 on 4 to hold a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes on goals by Tyler Graovac and Daniil Zharkov.
The Bulls jumped on the Petes early in the 3rd period scoring just 29 seconds into the final period on Graovac’s second of the game. Zharkov added his 2nd of the game at 7:29 before Pierog got his 2nd of the game to cut the Bulls lead in half at 8:45. Joseph Cramarossa closed out the scoring for the Bulls at 11:30 on the powerplay making the final 5-2 for the Bulls.
The Petes wil now travel south on the 115 on Sunday afternoon in a rematch of Thursday night against the Generals before returning to the Memorial Centre on Thursday night against the Ottawa 67’s.
