Cole Fraser Selected 131st Overall by Detroit Red Wings in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft

With the 7th pick in the 5th round (131st overall) at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in Chicago, Illinois, the Detroit Red Wings selected Petes defenceman Cole Fraser.

Fraser, a 6’2”, 191lbs defenceman from Beckwith, Ontario, played a great season with the Petes in 2016-17. The sophomore recorded 6 goals, 13 assists, 19 points and 82 penalty minutes this season, dressing for 61 regular season games. The sturdy blue-liner was a force throughout playoffs, recording a +1 rating in 12 games.

“For the Petes to bring me in as a 16 year old and to help me develop the way that I have, I can’t thank our coaching staff enough for helping me get to this point,” said Fraser. “The feeling I had when I heard my name called was something I could have only dreamed of.”
