Five Petes Prospects Participating in OHL Gold Cup this Week

One hundred sixty players, including five prospects selected by the Petes in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection, will suit up to represent eight teams in the annual OHL Gold Cup event in Kitchener from May 4-7.

“The Ontario Hockey League is pleased to once again partner with the OHF and Hockey Canada for the 2017 OHL Gold Cup. This great partnership has, and will continue to, develop some of the very best players from across Ontario who will compete for a spot on Team Canada’s Under-17 selection camp in July,” said Joe Birch, Senior Director of Hockey Development and Special Events with the Ontario Hockey League.

From the 2016 event, 28 OHL Gold Cup alumni were selected to play for Hockey Canada at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge (the largest Ontario contingent since the inception of the three Canadian team system).

The Petes prospects competing in the tournament are as follows:

Cameron Supryka (OMHA Black) – 60th overall
Daniel Panetta (OMHA White) – 75th overall
Jagger O’Toole (ALLIANCE) – 95th overall
Andrew Horsley (OMHA Black) – 104th overall
Ryan Richardson (HEO) – 195th overall

“Watching guys on my team (Team Alliance) as well as guys on other teams and learning from them can only help my development. I plan to use a tournament like this to elevate my game,” commented O’Toole.

Tournament games kick off on Thursday, May 4 at 9am as Team GTHL Blue takes on Team HEO. Petes prospects make their first appearance of the tournament later that day when Team OMHA Black (Horsley, Supryka) take on Team GTHL Red at 11:15am, and Team ALLIANCE (O’Toole) takes on Team NOHA at 1:30pm. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, May 7 at 12:30pm.
