Mike Duco Joins the Okanagan Hockey Group

Peterborough Petes Assistant Coach Mike Duco has accepted a position with the Okanagan Hockey Group.

Duco will be the inaugural Head Coach of the Okanagan Hockey Ontario U18 AAA team to be based out of Whitby, Ontario. He will remain with the Petes in a player development position.

“On behalf of the Petes organization – our players, coaches, staff, and Board of Directors – I’d like to congratulate Mike on earning this opportunity with the Okanagan Hockey Group,” commented Petes General Manager Mike Oke. “We are proud to have provided him with a platform in Peterborough to continue his development as a coach, and are pleased that he’ll be remaining with our club in a player development role.”

The Toronto, Ontario native joined the Petes in July, 2017 after serving as the Head Coach of the ECHL’s Elmira Jackals. He played eight seasons of professional hockey between the NHL (Vancouver, Florida), AHL (Toronto, Chicago, Rochester), ECHL (Evansville, Indy, Orlando), EIHL (EC Salzburg) and EBEL (Sheffield Steelers).

In the OHL, Duco was a forward with the Kitchener Rangers for five seasons and was a member of the 2007-08 OHL Championship team. He recorded 99 goals, 92 assists, 191 points, and 489 penalty minutes in 242 games.

“I’m very grateful to the Petes for the opportunity they gave me, and for what I’ve learned from the coaching staff and management in Peterborough,” added Duco. “I’m excited to remain with the team in a player development role while taking on a new challenge with the Okanagan Hockey Group.”
