Petes Double Generals 6-3

Although the Petes trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes, they did not quit as they scored 6 straight goals enroute to a 6-3 win over the Oshawa Generals.

The Generals jumped on the Petes early scoring 4:04 into the game and again at 14:13 of the first period to hold a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The second period began and the line of Derek Mathers, Stephen Pierog and Nick Ritchie combined for 6 points and the Petes led 3-2 after forty minutes as Pierog scored at 2:19, Ritchie at 7:55 and Mathers at 12:27 ending Generals goaltender Daniel Altshuller’s evening.

The same line came out flying in the third period as well after Nick Czinder gave the Petes a 4-2 lead at 6:09, Ritchie struck for his 2nd of the game at 6:37 and Mathers for his second of the game at 8:34 giving the Petes a 6-2 lead.  The Generals cut the Petes lead in half at 12:30 when TRyler Biggs scored on the powerplay.  In the end, Mathers recorded 2 goals and 2 assists, Pierog had 1 goal and 2 assists while Ritchie added a pair of goals.

The win now puts the Petes within 2 points of the Kingston Frontenacs for the final Eastern Conference playoff position.  Next up for the Petes are the Belleville Bulls on Saturday night before a rematch with the Generals on Sunday evening at the GMC.
