Petes Fall to Wolves in Regular Season Finale

Kenneth Andersen & Jess Van Staalduinen

The Petes were home for the last time in the regular season and following a ceremony recognizing the Petes overagers they were ready to take on the Sudbury Wolves.

After a hard fought final game it would end up being the Wolves who would come out on top 3-1.

The first period was fairly quiet, with both goaltenders blocking some serious shots although neither side was able to register a goal which would end the period with two zeroes on the scoreboard.

The shots on goal were sitting in favour of the Petes 18-8 after the first 20.

The second frame would be where the first club got on the board as Calgary Flames prospect Adam Ruzicka got the Wolves the first goal of the night off an assist from Shane Bulitka to make it 1-0 for Sudbury.

Several minutes later Sudbury would increase their lead by one with a rocket from Drake Pilon courtesy of Macauley Carson. The scoreboard thus read 2-0 for the visitors.

At the end of a total of 40 minutes the Wolves held a two goal advantage while the shots stood in favour of the home side by one at 21-20.

The Petes finally got on the board in the eleventh minute of the final period as Liam Kirk ripped a blast past World Juniors Gold medalist Ukko-Pekka Lukkonen for his 26th of the season. Both Semyon Der-Arguchintsev and rookie Dustin Hutton would be credited with assisting Kirk to make it 2-1 and ensuring Lukkonen didn’t leave the PMC with a shutout.

With an empty net shot from the man who scored the opening goal in Ruzicka the Wolves would take the game 3-1 to finish out the regular season.

Final shots were 34-32 in favour of Peterborough.

The three stars respectively were the three overagers,  Adam Timleck, Chris Paquette, and Austin Osmanski, with the Mark’s Hardest Working Player of the Game awarded to the lone goal scorer Kirk .
