PRE-GAME WARM-UP: Petes vs. 67’s – Jan. 6 @ 2:00pm
The Petes are in Ottawa to face off against the divisions rival 67’s in what will be their fourth of seven match ups this season. The 67’s hold the season series lead at 2-1-0-0, with the Petes taking their last meeting on December 30 with 5-4 overtime win.
While the Petes will ice the same roster from that game, Ottawa’s lineup has since seen a handful of changes. The 67’s, who sit fifth in the East Division and ninth in the Eastern Conference after dropping their last three games, acquired centre Jacob Cascagnette, centre Shaw Boomhower, and defenceman Merrick Rippon from the Mississauga Steelheads in exchange for forward Mathieu Foget and three picks on January 1.
Although Peterborough’s lineup remains the same, the game will mark Andrew Verner’s first appearance since being named Interim Head Coach after former Head Coach Jody Hull was relieved of his duties Friday. The Petes, who are two points ahead of the 67’s at fourth in the East Division and sixth in the Eastern Conference, hope that the change will inspire improved performance by the talented roster.
In their three games against the 67’s so far this season, Pavel Gogolev and Nikita Korostelev have each recorded five points. Gogolev netted his first career hat trick against the Barber Poles on December 30, while Korostelev kicked off a seven game point streak when the clubs met on December 14. Points leaders for the 67’s against the Petes include the team’s leading scorer, Sasha Chmelevski, and Tye Felhaber, who recorded a hat trick in the same game as Gogolev.
