Team Ontario Drops Shootout decision to Team USA at U17

Eric Cornel and his Team Ontario teammates dropped a 6-5 shootout decision to Team USA to open the 2013 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in Victoriaville, Quebec on Saturday afternoon.


Ontario opened the scoring 10:55 into the game on a goal by Aaron Ekblad of the Barrie Colts and held that 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.


Team USA evened the game 33 seconds into the 2nd, but Ontario came roaring back the 3 goals to build a 4-1 lead on goals by Josh Ho-Sang (Windsor Spitfires), Daniel De Sousa (Belleville Bulls) and Connor McDavid (Erie Otters).  Team USA cut into the lead before the end of the period with a marker by Jack Eichel.


USA scored early again in the 3rd period with a pair of goals by Keegan Iverson and Eichel to even the game, however, again Ontario took the lead on a goal by Sam Bennett (Kingston Frontenacs).  USA scored the equalizer at 11:59 of the final period to force overtime on a goal by Sonny Milano and Milano then recorded the shootout winner as the only shooter to score making the final 6-5 for Team USA.
