Semyon Der-Arguchintsev and Declan Chisholm were in Dallas, Texas on Saturday to hear their names called at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
Semyon Der-Arguchintsev was selected in the 3rd round, 76th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 5’10”, 159lbs playmaking centre recorded 12 goals, 39 assists, 51 points and 18 penalty minutes, appearing in all 68 regular games. He was named the team’s most sportsmanlike player of the 2017-18 season. Semyon joins 12 other Petes to be selected by the Maple Leafs, including Bob Neely (1973), Luke Richardson (1987), and Tie Domi (1988).
“It means a lot to me [to be selected by Toronto], especially because the Maple Leafs is such a good organization,” commented Der-Arguchintsev.
Defenseman Declan Chisholm was selected in the 5th round, 150th overall by the Winnipeg Jets. The 6’1”, 185lbs Bowmanville, Ontario native registered 3 goals, 17 assists, 20 points and 16 penalty minutes in 47 regular season games last season, in which he was named the team’s best defenseman. He makes history becoming the first Pete to be drafted by the Jets; Zach Bogosian (2008) was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers before their relocation to Winnipeg in 2001.
“Now we can just jump into things, and I’m super excited to start right away,” said Chisholm regarding the Jets’ development camp taking place this week in Winnipeg.
Petes prospect Logan Hutsko (Boston College) was selected in the 3rd round, 89th overall by the Florida Panthers.
