Education

Education as a Peterborough Pete

The Peterborough Petes pride themselves on education. 100% of Petes players attend school at some level, whether it be High School at Thomas A. Stewart Secondary, college at Sir Sandford Fleming, or University at Trent. The Petes also have several players earning College and University credits through online courses at the post secondary institution of their choice in the Petes state of the art Alumni Room (Photo's are available in the Photo Gallery). The Petes Alumni Room is equipped with four Laptop computers with wireless internet access for the players to use. 95% of all OHL players attend high school, college, or university.

The Petes, being centrally located in Ontario are fortunate to have a travel schedule that still allows the players to attend school regularly.  With a 68 game unbalanced regular season schedule, and a two-conference, four-division format the Ontario Hockey League has taken steps to minimize the number of school days missed and maximize the opportunity for the student athlete.  Last season Petes players missed just five full days of school due to hockey.  This number is one of the lowest in the OHL. The OHL is primarily a weekend league with 90% of games being scheduled between Thursday and Sunday, thus allowing players to attend school regularly.

The Petes also pride themselves on their education packages, as they were the first team in the OHL to offer their players an education package to attend any Canadian University or College after they were finished playing in the OHL.  Every player who does not sign a professional hockey contract is eligible for the Petes education package.  (Packages may differ between players).
