Peterborough Petes General Manager Mike Oke announced today that forward Anthony Stefano has committed to the Peterborough Petes after signing an OHL Contract and Education Package.
“Our program is very excited to gain a full commitment from Anthony Stefano and his family today. Anthony has displayed an elite level of play for a 16 year old playing Major Midget for the Soo North Stars this season and has been a big part of that clubs success during the regular season and subsequently winning the 2013 Great North Midget Hockey League Championships” stated Petes General Manager Mike Oke.
During the 2012-13 regular season, Stefano captured the Great North Midget Hockey League scoring championship recording 36 goals, 63 assists for 99 points in 33 regular season contests.
In Stefano, the Petes secure their 5th Round Selection from the 2012 OHL Priority Selection, who elected to sign with Peterborough after being offered numerous NCAA scholarships and visiting NCAA schools.
“The signing of Anthony, who has also been strongly pursued by a number of NCAA programs, is another positive indication for where our program is and where it’s heading” explained Oke. “We are extremely excited that Anthony has chosen to pursue his hockey and educational goals by playing with the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League.”
“It has been a lifelong dream of mine to play in the Ontario Hockey League” says Anthony Stefano. “I am extremely pleased to be joining the Pete’s organization which has a long and proud history. I’m looking forward to integrating into the community and contributing to the future success of the Petes.”
Anthony and his North Stars teammates played in the 2013 Telus Cup April 22-28th hosted in Sault Ste. Marie. Fans will be able to see Anthony on the ice in Peterborough on August 29th at the Peterborough Memorial Centre during the Petes Training Camp presented by East Side Mario’s and powered by CCM.
