Petes Mourn the Passing of Carter Schoonderwoerd

The entire Peterborough Petes organization is saddened to learn about the passing of Petes prospect, Carter Schoonderwoerd.

Carter was selected 203rd overall in the 11th round from the Huron Perth Lakers Minor Midget AAA in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. The Mitchell, Ont., native spent two seasons with the St. Marys Lincolns and suited up for the Stratford Warriors of the GOJHL during their 2019-20 season.

At the Petes 2018 Training Camp, Carter credited his parents for supporting his hockey dreams and shared his gratitude for his mom’s delicious pre-game pasta. To the Petes staff, he unveiled that some of his favourite things to do included playing basketball, soccer, and hitting the waves on his Sea-Doo with friends.

Carter was employed as plant manager at McCann Redi-Mix in Mitchell and he loved spending time at “The Shack”.

The Petes would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the entire Schoonderwoerd family, Carter’s past and present teammates, his friends and the Stratford hockey community.

Friends will be received at the Lockhart Funeral Home (109 Montreal St., Mitchell) on Friday, June 11 from 9 am – 12pm, 1pm – 4pm and 6pm – 9pm. A private family funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 12. To send flowers or to make a donation, please click here.
