Petes Mourn the Passing of Jacob Downey

The entire Peterborough Petes organization is saddened to learn about the passing of Petes Education Fund Scholarship Recipient, Jacob Downey.

This fall the Lindsay, Ont., attended Queen’s University after wrapping up his secondary education at IE Weldon Secondary School. Downey spent three seasons from 2017-2019 with the Central Ontario Wolves AAA program before joining the Peterborough Minor Petes in 2019. In the spring of 2021, Downey was one of three local players who were awarded an academic scholarship from the Petes Education Fund. Upon receiving the award, Downey shared with the Petes Staff that the positive culture curated by his PMHC teammates played a huge factor in his personal development.

The Petes would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the entire Downey family, Jacob’s past teammates, Queen’s University, his friends and the Peterborough hockey community.
