The Peterborough Petes are excited to announce that they have selected Donovan McCoy in the first round, fifteenth overall in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection presented by Real Canadian Superstore.
McCoy, a 5’11.5”, 177lbs defenceman, played for the OMHA Champion Quinte Red Devils during the 2019-20 season. In 35 games he recorded 6 goals, 29 assists, 35 points and 40 penalty minutes. The Belleville, Ontario native was named the OMHA Minor Midget Player of the Year.
“Donovan has turned into one of the elite defencemen in his age group,” reported OHL Central Scouting. “His skating ability, skill, and composure with the puck are things that have separated him from the rest of the defence.”
“In Donovan we have selected a dependable two-way defenceman that’s tough to play against in his own end and can contribute offensively,” commented Petes GM Mike Oke. “He skates well, has good size, and has a tremendous work ethic.”
“Getting drafted is a huge honour and a dream come true,” said McCoy. “This is something I’ve been looking forward to for awhile, and I’m looking forward to joining a great team in a great city.”
