Petes welcome George Gillespie as sixth member of the Board of Directors
Peterborough Petes President Dave Pogue, on behalf of the entire Petes Board of Directors, announced Wednesday that the team is welcoming George Gillespie as the team’s sixth member of the Board of Directors.
Gillespie, an accomplished accountant with a strong local focus, will primarily assist with the financial management and accounting practices of the Petes Business and Hockey Operations departments. The lifelong Peterborough resident served as a General Partner with McColl Turner LLP (now Grant Thornton LLP) for over three decades as a licenced public accountant and Chartered Professional Accountant.
The highly respected and awarded accountant also brings extensive volunteer Board experience to the Petes. He is presently a Treasurer, Trustee, and Board Member of Kawartha Land Trust, and recently stepped down from governance positions with Sir Sandford Fleming College, the Peterborough Business Development Centre Inc., and the Peterborough Information and Volunteer Bureau, Inc.
“After an extensive review process, the Petes Board and I are very excited to bring George on as our newest Director,” noted Pogue. “George brings extensive finance and accounting knowledge, a staunch commitment to the Peterborough community, and a strong understanding of the inner-workings of the business operations of the Petes, specifically, and junior hockey as a whole.”
“I’d like to thank the Petes Board of Directors for their confidence in my abilities, and for the opportunity to assist one of the greatest junior hockey franchises in the world in achieving continued growth and success on and off the ice, now and in the future,” added Gillespie. “Like many in Peterborough, I have been a fan of this team since I can remember, and it will be an honour and a privilege to hold a position on the Board.”
The Petes Board of Directors now has six members, with the addition of Gillespie. The most recent additions came in 2013, with Dave Lorentz (current Vice President & Treasurer), Dave Pogue (current President), and Rod McGillis (current Vice President) joining Vice President Ken Jackman and Governor Dr. Bob Neville on the Board.
