Peterborough Petes General Manager Mike Oke announced Friday that the team has received commitments from 2020 OHL Priority Selection second round picks Sam Alfano and Justin DeZoete.
Alfano, a 2004-born right winger, was selected by the Petes in the 2nd round, 23rd overall in this year’s OHL Priority Selection. As captain of the Southern Tier Minor Midget AAA Admirals, he registered 36 goals, 27 assists, and 63 points in 32 games. The 6’3”, 180lbs Cayuga native was named OMHA SCTA Player of the Year after leading the league in goals.
“Committing to the OHL is a dream come true for me and I am honoured to have the opportunity to play for such a historic and prestigious franchise like the Petes,” said Alfano. “I just can’t wait to get started with my new teammates and play in front of the great hockey fans of Peterborough.”
DeZoete, a 2004-born right winger, was also selected by the Petes in the 2nd round, 35th overall in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. In 33 games this season, he recorded 25 goals and 30 assists for 55 points. The 5’11”, 159lbs Hamilton native served as co-captain of the Huskies.
“This is a dream come true,” added DeZoete. “Words can’t describe how excited I am, I can’t wait to get going.”
“We’re excited to add two more quality players to the organization,” commented Oke. “Both were considered top forwards in this year’s draft class.”
“While we continue to add depth to our roster there are still spots open in all positions, so we’re expecting and looking forward to a very competitive training camp.”
