Pride Month Resources in Peterborough

June is Pride Month in Canada. Early June typically kicks off the Pride season of festivals and celebrations from coast to coast to coast that run until the end of August.

The Peterborough Petes recognize that hockey still has a long way to go to make our sport inclusive for all, and that is a reflection of society as a whole.

The following is a list of resources that may be useful for those looking to learn more about Pride Month, and what it means to be an ally, locally and beyond. Thanks to Pflag Peterborough for many of the links on this page!

Fleming College Equity, Diversity and Inclusion – Peterborough – Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Sir Sandford Fleming College, provides a positive and safe space for members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community! We are committed to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in and around Fleming College.

Norwood Pride – A non-profit organization celebrating 2SLGBTQ+ people in the township of Asphodel-Norwood.

PARN (Peterborough AIDS Resource Network) – PARN is a community based agency providing support, health promotion and advocacy for people HIV-infected and HIV-affected. PARN provides education for people at risk for HIV and awareness of AIDS issues to the broader community.

Pflag Canada Peterborough Chapter – PFLAG Canada is a national charitable organization that speaks for a more accepting Canadian society by providing support, education and resources to all people who wish to grow in their understanding of sexual and gender diversity.

Peterborough PRIDE – PRIDE exists to celebrate the history, courage, diversity, and future of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Transsexual, Queer, Intersex, and Two-Spirited (LGBTTQI2-S) communities. It started as just a parade and is now a whole week of activities.

Rainbow Youth Peterborough – A coalition of service providers who strive to enrich the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, transsexual, 2-spirited and questioning youth (ages 14-25) in the counties of Peterborough, Northumberland, Haliburton, and the City of Kawartha Lakes. We do this through education, advocacy and outreach, and by supporting queer youth in the development of their social networks.

Sport a Rainbow – Founded by Rose Powers, Sport A Rainbow is a reminder to be supportive, respectful and kind to each other in spite of our differences. This support can be shown in your everyday life at school, work, extracurricular activities and certainly in the sporting community.

Trent Queer Collective (TQC) – TQC exists to provide a safe space, resources, and social opportunities for queer students and their allies at Trent University in Peterborough. We strive to challenge all types of queer phobia at Trent University and in the Peterborough community through education and political action. We aim to foster a safe and anti-oppressive environment which affirms and celebrates the diversity and intersectionality of all queer identities.
