Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations & General Manager Dale Tallon announced that Hall of Famer and Petes alumnus Chris Pronger has been named the club’s Senior Advisor to the President of Hockey Operations.
“Chris has spent the last three years working for the League’s Department of Player Safety and is ready to move into a more competitive, executive role,” said Tallon. “One of the most dominant defenseman of his era, Chris’ winning resume and wealth of hockey knowledge will be a great asset to our hockey club. We’re thrilled that he has chosen to join the Panthers organization.”
Pronger, 42, joins the Panthers front office after working with the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety since 2014.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with and learn from an executive with the track record that Dale has,” Pronger said. “I’m looking forward to doing everything I can to help the Panthers work towards winning the Stanley Cup.”
Pronger played two seasons with the Petes from 1991-93. The big defenceman from Dryden, Ontario, played in 155 regular season and playoff games, recording 48 goals, 140 assists, 188 points, and 277 penalty minutes. Before being drafted by the Hartford Whalers second overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Pronger was named an OHL First Team all-star and won the Max Kaminsky Trophy (OHL’s best defenceman), the CHL Plus/Minus Award, and the CHL Best Defenceman award.
Pronger appeared in 1,167 NHL games recording 698 points (157-541-698) for the Philadelphia Flyers (2009-11), Anaheim Ducks (2006-09), Edmonton Oilers (2005-06), St. Louis Blues (1995-04) and Hartford Whalers (1993-95). Pronger played his final NHL game on November 19, 2011. He was originally selected by Hartford in the first round (second overall) of the 1993 NHL Draft.
