The Peterborough Petes selected five players in the 2017 OHL Under-18 Priority Selection on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
In the first round, with the fifteenth overall pick, the Petes selected Eric Conley of the Kemptville 73’s. Conley, a 6’2”, 187lbs winger from Ottawa scored 17 goals and 18 assists for 35 points this season.
“It feels great to be selected by the Petes,” commented the first-rounder. “I’m going to work hard to make the team, and I think I can contribute offensively and defensively as a big, fast player.”
In the rounds to follow, the team added four promising 1999- and 2000-born players to the depth chart, including two forwards, two defencemen and a goalie. They are as follows:
1st round, 15th overall: Eric Conley, Right Wing, 6’2”, 187lbs, Kemptville 73’s
2nd round, 35th overall: Liam Israels, Right Defence, 6’2”, 176lbs, London Knights
3rd round, 55th overall: Blake Curran, Goalie, 6’0”, 174lbs, Peterborough Petes
4th round, 75th overall: Alderic Denis, Left Defence, 5’9”, 156lbs, Ottawa Senators
5th round, 81st overall: Graeme McCrory, Centre, 5’9”, 158lbs, Whitby Wildcats
Israels, Peterborough’s second round pick, added that “the U-18 Priority Selection is a great thing that the OHL is doing, as it allows players like me – who developed a little later or didn’t play AAA hockey all the way through – to get drafted.”
Each player is expected to be introduced to fans at the team’s year-end banquet (date to be determined).
