Petes Welcoming 40 New Canadians in Official Ceremony Before March 1 Game

To celebrate the growing diversity of the Peterborough community and to help reinforce the inclusivity of the game of hockey, the Peterborough Petes will join members of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in welcoming 40 new Canadian citizens at an official Canadian citizenship ceremony before the game against the London Knights on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 7:05pm.

The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a free Canadian flag. Members of the audience who are already citizens are invited to reaffirm their commitment to Canada by raising their right hand and taking the oath of citizenship and singing our national anthem, O Canada with our new Canadians.

The tentative schedule for the ceremony is as follows:

6:57pm: New Canadians and dignitaries welcomed to centre ice
6:59pm
: Officiant’s remarks
7:04pm: Oath of citizenship (words will be displayed on the videoboard for all fans who wish to raise their right hand and join)
7:06pm: Receipt of citizenship certificates
7:12pm: Closing remarks
7:17pm: Ceremonial puck drop with team captains
7:18pm: National anthem
7:24pm: Game start

The ceremony, which will begin shortly before the regularly scheduled puck drop of 7:05pm, will take place at centre ice at the Peterborough Memorial Centre and is anticipated to delay the start of the game by no more than 20 minutes.

Peterborough Petes Citizenship Ceremony Game Contest
